GRACE
When asked to describe yourself, what you mention first often shapes what people think of you. Do you start with your job, your likes and dislikes, your appearance, your beliefs? I guess it depends on the person you’re talking to. Through the blog and the photos, I’m sure you’ll see snippets of “me” for yourself, but here I’ll share the information that may not come through elsewhere. You may be able to tell that I like history, travel, taking nice photos and my husband (clearly, since this is a joint effort), though you might not know that I love my cat, reading, video games, art, board games, trying new things, my family, my career, learning, and experiencing all the world has to offer. I’m a speech-language pathologist with other vested academic interests in fine and digital art, writing, literature, assistive technology, and humanities. I’m working on becoming a certified Assistive Technology Professional while keeping my department afloat, balancing a work, social and family life, and really pushing myself to put my own wellbeing first in the coming years. To some I’ve been described as an overachiever, but I like to think that I just try to do my best with everything I encounter. I like to dabble in writing fiction, taking photos, and learning niche facts that may come in handy the next time I play Jeopardy! I’m not a fan of injustices, but know the world is more than a few shades of gray, and hope that through learning and perseverance and the collective “good” the world may change for the better. I like trying new and different flavors of chips and soda, can’t stand the taste of peppermint, and love potatoes at any time of day in any form.
My hope for this website is to document our lives, not just for friends or family, but for us. Non mihi, non tibi, sed nobis. Semper nobis.
BRIAN
Brian doesn’t do self-summaries, self-reviews or self-evaluations. Just ask my old bosses.
Obviously I’m rather fond of history and photography…and trains. Lots of trains.
I also enjoy reading, playing tennis, D&D, gaming, LEGO, and technology. Recently switched careers from managing a bookstore to running an audio visual department. Way less books but way more gadgetry to play with. Working my way towards taking a page from my new boss’ playbook and collecting as many tech certs as I’m able to. COMPTIA ITF+, A+, Networking+ and Security+ are first on the docket and I’ve been going through books and studying up on them so I can grab a test in the near future.
I also enjoy humor of all kinds - mostly dark or dry - and puns. It’s pun for the whole family.
